The College of San Mateo women’s water polo team closed out the 2024 season with a win, a 12-3 victory at the Coast Conference tournament.
The Bulldogs continued to improve as the season progressed. CSM won two of its final four games and outscored its opponents by a 48-29 margin over that span.
With a 2024 team roster of just three returners and nine newcomers, CSM head coach Andrew Silva hopes the late success carries over into next season.
“The women’s water polo team continued the processes of restarting our program with another successful season, especially in conference play,” said Silva. “The team culture and environment were outstanding, which allowed all members of the roster to show tremendous improvement over the season. The team took on a more challenging schedule then the previous year, and this resulted in some really strong play later in the season.
“This year’s roster has created and strong foundation for the future success of the program.”
In just the second season back after the relaunch of the program, the Bulldogs ended 2024 with a 3-10 overall record and went 2-5 in Coast Conference play to finish in sixth out of eight teams.
CSM had four received All-Coast Conference postseason honors:
Sophomore Nefeli Tsangaropoulos (1st Team), sophomore Annika Janzen (2nd Team), sophomore Jordan Galea (2nd Team), and freshman Gizel Ortiz (Honorable Mention).
